PAC 116 Overview
The PAC116 is all about clarity—whether it’s on stage, in a conference room, or in the studio. For live or spoken-word settings, it delivers crisp, intelligible speech while rejecting noise from behind and cutting down on floor vibration. In the studio, its discrete electronics and tuned capsule give you a smooth, natural frequency response with impressively low noise. It captures the subtle character of acoustic instruments, but it’s also built to take on loud sources—handling up to 150 dB SPL with a switchable pad. The self-noise is so low, you can make clean, detailed recordings without worrying about hiss creeping in.
The PAC116 uses Phase Aligned Condenser Technology in a boundary mic design, meaning it’s meant to be placed on a flat surface like a stage floor, wall, ceiling, or even the lid of a piano. Mounting it this way eliminates phase cancellations because sound waves meet the boundary at the same time, keeping the frequency response smooth and free from the “comb filtering” that can make audio sound thin. You also get a natural 6 dB boost in sensitivity from the boundary effect—more gain without the noise.
