SM87A Overview
The Shure SM87A is a condenser mic with a super cardioid pickup pattern in the Shure “studio microphone” series. It has specs very similar to the Shure Beta 87A. A big difference is how the frequency response is different in the pickup pattern. The Beta version is uniform at all frequencies in the pickup pattern where the SM87A gets loose not offering as much gain before feedback as the Beta version. The SM87A is mainly used for vocals producing a warmer sound.
